Position Title: Partner – Tier 1 Law Firm – Banking
Location: Dallas or Houston, Texas

Firm Overview

My client, a Tier 1 law firm with offices across the country, is known for delivering innovative, industry-focused legal counsel. The firm has a deep bench of attorneys spanning a broad spectrum of practice areas—ranging from corporate and litigation to intellectual property and finance—collaborating across industries and geographies to meet the growing, complex needs of its clients. Within the Banking practice, the firm works closely with financial institutions, private lenders, and corporate borrowers on an array of matters, from commercial financing and lending to regulatory compliance and M&A.

Role Summary

My client is currently seeking a Partner to join its Dallas or Houston office and lead its Banking practice in Texas. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in banking law—particularly in areas such as commercial lending, regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions involving financial institutions, and restructuring. This is an excellent opportunity to grow a robust banking practice within a firm that highly values collaboration, client service, and continuous innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as a trusted advisor to a range of financial-sector clients, from regional community banks to national banking institutions.
  • Practice Leadership: Drive the strategic direction and growth of the Banking practice in Dallas or Houston, partnering with other leaders across the firm.
  • Business Development: Identify and cultivate opportunities to expand client relationships, including cross-selling services to existing firm clients. Participate in marketing and client-engagement initiatives supported by the firm’s dedicated Marketing Department.
  • Team Mentorship & Development: Mentor associates and junior partners, helping them build legal acumen and sector knowledge. Lead training initiatives or seminars to further knowledge-sharing within the Banking practice group.
  • Strategic Advisory: Advise clients on banking regulatory compliance, commercial finance, loan documentation, M&A of financial institutions, and other complex banking matters.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work: Collaborate with other practice groups—such as corporate, litigation, and real estate—to deliver comprehensive solutions that address clients’ business objectives.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Texas (or eligibility to become licensed in Texas).
  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience practicing banking law, including client-facing work in regulatory, transactional, or litigation matters.
  • Proven Book of Business or strong business development acumen with the ability to contribute to the continued success and growth of the Banking practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead case teams, manage client engagements, and mentor junior lawyers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal strategies to diverse audiences.
